Bellevue Road
Replacement of a 1950’s hostel for the homeless which, due to the financial downturn, was ultimately built as 19 general needs & supported flats.
£6.5 million 36-unit retirement living scheme located on a prominent gateway site on the prestigious new residential development at Abbotswood, north of Romsey for McCarthy Stone.
KSA were appointed in 2018 to undertake an initial capacity study for this linear greenfield site at the entrance of the new housing estate. The capacity study dictated that the optimum quantum of development, accommodating sufficient parking and residential amenity space, would be 36 dwellings within a predominantly 3 storey building.
Developing the scheme beyond the capacity exercise, KSA took visual cues from the surrounding high-quality architecture and nearby care home. Utilising a pallet of materials including red brick, black and cream coloured cladding board and feature zinc windows surrounds, a visually striking entrance to the development is proposed which reflects the traditional detailing and proportions of the surrounding context.
Due to its location, the building is visually prominent on all four sides, therefore great care was required to ensure the scheme addressed each aspect while promoting a hierarchy in the design approach to celebrate the focal point corner and main entrance into the building.
People are at the centre of everything we do, we foster and nurture a creative and innovative environment in which all excel.
The scheme was submitted to planning in 2019 with consent being granted in late 2021. Works are due to start on-site in early 2022.
