With the existing facilities at the Centre no longer providing suitable access for all visitors, the practice was asked to look at ways of refurbishing the building. Early feasibility work indicated that adaptation was not a viable solution so we worked with our client to develop a mixed-use scheme whereby the residential development helped fund new accessible community facilities at ground floor level. The complex acoustic requirements of the hall relative to the residential provision made this a challenging build but the resulting new hall, meeting rooms, café and tele-cottage have been extremely well received by the community.
