Bernie Tunstal Place
This Grade II Listed Church had lain derelict for 16 years following a fire in 1985. Sited in a prominent position in Eastleigh, the local community and authorities wished to see the church renovated and put to good use. Many ideas were put forward over the years but it took the foresight of the client with KSA to see its potential as providing much needed affordable housing for key workers and social rent. The architectural solution was to construct 25 two-bedroom flats arranged within the volume of the restored envelope served by a ground floor internal ‘street’ and atrium space. Many original features were retained giving each apartment real character.
The £2.5 million project, funded by the Housing Corporation’s Challenge Fund, Eastleigh Borough Council and First Wessex (Atlantic Housing Association) was completed in March 2004.
Awards:
Evening Standard Award for Best New Conversion 2005

Kingsway House
The client, a storage company, was introduced to KSA through a mutual developer associate, who wished to dispose of this Grade II Listed building as it no longer met Health & Safety standards required to run their business. The practice was key in bringing a local RSL, Spectrum Housing Group, into the frame and the team worked together to the benefit of all. The successful conversion of this historic building was recognised by the Salisbury Civic Society in 2010 in their Conservation Awards Scheme.

Commendation Award for Outstanding Work to an Existing Building |
